Spaces Engine will shortly be migrating from our current payment collection and licensing system (Easy Digital Downloads) to Freemius. This document will answer most of the questions around this migration.
Who Is Freemius?
Freemius is a managed eCommerce platform for selling digital products in the WordPress ecosystem. Plugin businesses, theme shops, and SaaS platforms of all sizes use their secure payments, licensing, and subscriptions platform to automate sales.
Why Are We Doing This?
Changing our payments and licensing provider is one of a number of changes we are making to our business this year, all of which aims to be able to provide better support to our customers and be able to make more frequent updates to Spaces. We will be communicating these plans via email and our social media channels.
Our current system uses Easy Digital Downloads which has served us well, but it has a considerable business overhead, for instance the processing of taxes, management of licenses and no integrated affiliate program. We would prefer to spend this time adding new features to Spaces. We are very excited that this change will also mean we can offer PayPal as a payment option.
How Will We Do This?
We have worked directly with the team at Freemius to provide a seamless migration of customer licenses. We have a number of contingencies in place in the case of licenses not being transferred, so you should not experience any issues. However, if you do, we will be able quickly rectify the situation.
From 5th March, new customers will be able to purchase Spaces Engine using the Freemius platform.
Following shortly after, existing users will renew their licenses via the Freemius platform. We will continue to offer multi-site and lifetime licenses.
What About Payment Data? Will You Keep Records of Credit Card Numbers?
Both Freemius and EDD use Stripe for payments, and neither keep any payment information. All payment details are held securely on Stripe’s servers. Therefore there will be no change to this.
How Can I Check My Subscription and License Keys?
One of the benefits of switching to Freemius is the integrated account dashboard that will be added to our website. This provides a number of tools that will allow you to self-administer your sites, without having to rely on our support ticket system.
